Writing and Spoken Word
Writing on the Wall’s projects hold creativity and writing at their heart. We work with our communities to transform personal identities and the culture of the city in the process. Liverpool has always been a loud and proud collection of voices and WoW’s community is no different. Through our performance projects WoW are empowering children, young people and adults to tell their stories in their own voices. The Last Word was a 12-week spoken word programme with Merseyside Youth Associations Talent Match scheme that developed participants writing and performance skills. They developed individual voices from a group of keen and excited young people who completed the project with fire in their bellies and ink in their pens. Making their debut performance at Liverpool’s Rhyme and Records poetry night and performed alongside international powerhouse Debris Stevenson and local legend Lyndsay Price for WoWFest17, The Last Word is an open and loud collection of their work.
Rap Vs Rhyme was another of our performance projects combining spoken word and poetry with the technical prowess of rap. Led by international artist TL the participants, a mix of young people and adults developed their timing and swagger and performed a rip-roaring series of pieces, kicking off 2018 in style. Their DVD and EP Rap Vs Rhyme LIVE is a testament to their hard work and commitment, as you can clearly see the technical skill and creative confidence developed over a short time.
