Toxteth & Croxteth WorkshopsThis was a 24 week course which provided participants with the opportunity to explore different forms of storytelling including; short story, poetry, screenwriting and spoken word.
A diverse group of members from the local communities of Toxteth and Croxteth - areas with high levels of exclusion and social deprivation - have worked with their tutors, gaining experience of many forms and genres of writing, including short stories, flash fiction and poetry.
What’s Your Story? is open to unemployed people throughout the Merseyside area. The course began in December 2012 and culminated in a celebration event and book launch at Liverpool Town Hall on will provide aspiring writers with the opportunity to develop their work in a supportive, creative environment.
This Is Our Story
As part of WoW's annual festival participants of the each group put together an event, one being held at Siren Cafe and the other at Croxteth Communiversity, to celebrate the groups new writing. Participants performed to packed out audiences and rave reviews.
Celebration event at Town Hall and Book Launch
On 22nd July 2013, participants gathered at the Town Hall for award ceremony with guests Lord Mayor Gary Millar and Levi Tafari and the launch of the new What's Your Story? book featuring writing from all members of the two groups.
WoW’s Director Madeline Heneghan says:
‘We are as proud of these new writers as we are with the established authors we bring to the city. Our ethos is to support new writers and help people find ways of expressing themselves. The ‘What’s Your Story?’ writing project has inspired a whole array of fascinating new stories and poems from people who have never been published before and they deserve huge credit for this achievement.’
